I painted this piece after a summer holiday on the Isle of Skye with my daughter. We stayed near a friend’s croft, surrounded by those endless, shifting skies that make Skye feel alive. One moment the land was golden in the sunshine, the next it was washed in grey and sea-mist always changing, always dramatic.
I wanted to capture that feeling of being held between land, sea and sky. The way the light pours across the hills, the pull of the tide, the restless clouds overhead. Working in oils allowed me to layer the colours and let the paint flow, echoing the movement and wildness of the landscape.
This is more than a Scottish landscape painting for me it’s a memory of time with my daughter, of friendship, and of the raw, untamed beauty of Skye.
