I am Jacqueline Waggett, a mother embracing two daughters, two dogs, and two parts of myself. One flirts with adventure and creation, while the other succumbs (more often than not) to the relentless pace of responsibilites.
After 3 decades of being ‘responsible’, being ‘strong’ and endless personal sacrifices I find myself wanting more of the flirting with the fun part.
‘When the body says no’ and I developed fibromyalgia I really questioned where has the playfulness and bravery gone. In Bravely (and I mean bravely!!) exploring online dating, I was lucky enough to find a new companion who revelled in the simplicity of boats, trees, and hammocks.
Being on a boat,
Being at sea,
just Being
and pausing has stirred a dormant reawakening. Our days on the boat are directed by the power of wind, water, tides and sun. In such an unpredictable environment we surrender control to something far greater and more powerful.
The space created by the surrounding water on the boat (and lack of phone signal) made space to reconnect with my younger self, I'm refinding a more vibrant, playful, adventurer within me. In doing so I'm rediscovering the bravery to explore a blank canvas which I abandoned three decades ago.
INature's presence soothes my mind, slows my heartbeat and connects me to a rewilding within myself. I’ve become acutely aware of how blind I’ve been, like a hamster running in a wheel but getting nowhere, busily doing rather than being, reacting rather than responding, thinking change would be frighteningly lonely rather than the imaginings of contentment.
I'm awakening to the most powerful medicine right before our unblinkered eyes, when we look away from our screens, nature is there, free of judgement or greed, a space for imagination and connection, a blank canvas to imagine new possibilities.
When I'm painting, I have no intention to ‘master’ the media, I love playing with the different effects possible to pay tribute to the energy of our surroundings A younger part of myself has always found amusement in seeing patterns or images in random places, tiles, 70's wallpaper and carpets - there’s a brilliant word for it “pareidolia”.
Each painting I hope reflects a feeling of connection with a part of the medicine of nature, resulting in abstract pieces that invite our imagination to play, within the painting whilst in the comforts of our home. A space for imagination and place for possibility.
