Cromatic elegence is an original oil painting on canvas, inspired by a quiet moment of stillness above Saunton Sands, North Devon. The sky had dropped its weight and softened to a hush, stretching wide in endless layers of turquoise, indigo, and sea-glass green. It felt like the land had whispered and the sky paused to listen.
In the foreground, a band of yellow gorse glows like a secret waiting to be discovered. It’s that time of year when these golden blooms line the cliffs and dunes, and the breeze is thick with the scent of coconut and warm pineapple summer’s first flirtation. I love how they seem to glow even brighter against the cool stillness of the sea and sky.
This painting captures the moment where the wildness of the Atlantic gives way to serenity. The wide horizontal strokes reflect the rhythm of the tide and the hush of dusk over the bay. The cliffs of Braunton Burrows dissolve into the distance, softened by salt and time.
Painted in oils with layered, intuitive brushwork, this piece was created to evoke peace a sense of standing still and breathing it all in. It’s presented unframed on stretched canvas, signed and framed in a box frame, with no glaze.
For anyone who has stood on the headland and watched the light shift across the shore, this painting brings that still, sacred hush into your home.
