This piece is a love letter to the North Devon coastline—captured in the liminal stillness of low tide at Putsborough. Painted in acrylic on wood, it’s rich in texture, depth, and emotional pull. The tide has slipped away, leaving behind vast, golden sands laced with shallow pools, echoing light and memory. The foreground crackles with earthy mauves and russet tones—suggesting timeworn rock, sea-thrift, and sedimented silence.
Swirls of white trace the ghost-lines of waves just passed, while the sea beyond lies calm and wide under a luminous band of cloud. Above, the sky shifts from ochre to deep teal—storm-brewed and vivid, like something both remembered and imagined.
This painting is as much about feeling as it is about place. It’s about the stretch and release of time. About being alone and not alone. About the breath that comes when you’re still enough to hear your own thoughts, yet surrounded by something vast and wild.
The wood beneath the paint adds another layer of story—grain showing through in places, grounding the piece in the organic. It was made intuitively, built in layers like the beach itself—shaped by water, weather, and touch.
It’s a piece for anyone who knows the ache and balm of the sea. Who’s stood at the edge of something and felt both undone and remade.
