"Safe Haven" is more than just a beach on the north Devon coast—it’s my personal escape, a place where the only interruptions are the occasional curious seal or the odd rogue wave. This spot, usually sheltered from the blustery south-westerly winds, is the perfect setting for sea dipping, snorkeling, and trying not to resemble a bobbing seal snack.
Creating this abstract seascape in acrylic flow art was my version of a week-long retreat, or as I like to call it, “Operation: Paint Without Pants”—a vacation dedicated to painting without distractions (or dress codes). I’d been imagining this piece for a while, pondering how to capture those ancient rocky outcrops that stubbornly refuse to change, and the contrast of their ruggedness with the still, protected waters.
The painting moves between petrol blues and turbulent skies, and the serene aqua lines of the horizon. It’s a bit like life—moments of calm with a side of chaos. When I look at "Safe Haven," I feel both peace and turbulence, like trying to meditate while someone’s mowing the lawn outside. This abstract seascape is my way of freezing that moment in time and sharing its beauty with others, without them needing to dodge any seagulls.
And, of course, my signature on each piece is a little reminder that this was made with a lot of care, passion, and possibly some coffee-fueled late-night creativity.
With "Safe Haven," I hope you feel that same sense of peace—though perhaps without the wet suit. It’s a gentle nudge to slow down, enjoy the little things, and find beauty in unexpected places, even if that place is an abstract seascape hanging in your living room.
